It usually starts the same way. A call from Pakistan that comes too late at night. Money that was sent for something else, gone. A mother in Birmingham or Bradford who has stopped sleeping properly, because she knows her son is using and she is four thousand miles from doing anything about it. A brother in London who has paid for “treatment” twice before, in places he never saw, run by people whose names he never knew, and watched the relapse happen within weeks.
If you are reading this page, you are probably not the person with the addiction. You are the family. And your problem is not only his addiction. It is the distance, the half-truths, and the fact that from the UK you cannot verify anything anyone in Pakistan tells you.
This page explains how UK families arrange treatment here for a loved one in Pakistan, what it involves, what it costs, and how to judge any rehab in Pakistan, including us, before you trust one with your family member and your money.

- Sound familiar?
The Situation UK Families Describe to Us
These are the circumstances we hear in the first call, again and again, and what actually helps in each one.
We only find out when it is already bad.
The family in Pakistan softens every story to protect you. By the time you hear the truth, he has lost his job, sold things from the house, or been picked up by police.
Distance is the problem, not love. A clinical structure in Pakistan, plus a system that keeps you informed from the UK step by step, is what changes things.
We sent money for treatment and it never reached any treatment.
Money given in cash, to relatives or to the patient himself, has a way of feeding the addiction instead.
You speak to the clinical team first, and the plan and fee are confirmed with the clinic before any money moves, never cash into the chain that has been feeding the addiction.
He agreed on the phone, then refused when the day came.
Promises made to a worried mother at midnight do not survive the morning. This is the nature of addiction, not a lack of love, and it is why admission has to be planned professionally.
Refusal is rarely a final answer. Further down this page is a whole section on how families start this conversation, and what we can honestly do to help.
We tried a local arrangement and he walked out in three days.
A room in someone’s facility, no doctors, no structure, no family involvement. He left, and the family concluded that “rehab does not work.”
What failed was the arrangement, not rehab itself. Real treatment means named doctors, supervised detox, psychiatric care and family involvement, all of which you can verify before you commit.
Nobody here can even visit him.
The family in Pakistan is elderly, working, or exhausted from years of this. The people with the energy to act are you, in the UK, and you cannot be in the room.
This programme is built for exactly that distance: scheduled updates to your nominated contact, family sessions by phone, and a discharge plan agreed with you.
Not sure which one is yours?
You do not need the whole plan today. One confidential call tells you what he needs and what it would involve.
None of this means you have failed him. Addiction needs a clinical structure, and distance needs a system.
- If he is in the UK with you
Why Families Look to Pakistan
Some of the patients we treat from UK families were living in Britain when the family reached the end of the UK road. Treatment in Pakistan is not chosen because it is cheap. It is chosen because it is immediate, complete, culturally fluent, and far from the using environment, so the full programme can actually be completed.
NHS residential rehab is rare and slow
NHS addiction services are free, but residential rehab through the NHS is rare. The usual route is a GP or local drug and alcohol service, community detox where available, and long waits at every step. For a family watching someone deteriorate weekly, the timeline is the problem.
Help is slow to arrive
In the UK, help is slow to arrive, and while a family waits, addiction does not. The full programme he needs, often 90 days of residential care, has to start when he is ready to accept it, not months later.
The environment does not change
His dealers and using circle are streets away. Many British Pakistani patients also tell us therapy in the UK never reached the real issues: family honour, faith, shame, and the double life between two cultures.
Prescription-drug dependence is quietly widespread
Pregabalin (Lyrica), tramadol, and benzodiazepines circulate heavily in parts of the British Pakistani community, often bought without any prescription. UK services are stretched thin for exactly this kind of dependence, which needs a slow, medically managed taper.
- The programme
What Treatment Actually Involves
“Rehab” covers everything from a locked room to a real medical programme. Here is what ours consists of, step by step.
Assessment before admission
Our admissions and clinical team reviews the full history with you on a phone call: substances, amounts, duration, previous treatment, medical conditions, and mental health symptoms. If your loved one is willing, he is assessed directly as well. This decides whether residential treatment is right, and whether detox needs hospital-level caution first. If we find a medical or psychiatric emergency, we will tell you hospital care comes first.
Medically supervised detox
Withdrawal is where home attempts collapse, and where some withdrawals become dangerous. Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal can cause seizures and delirium if stopped suddenly without medication. Opioid and ICE withdrawal drive people back to using within days when unmanaged. At Healing Door, detox is supervised by our physicians, with medication to manage withdrawal safely and monitoring through the hardest days. Pregabalin and tramadol dependence are tapered gradually.
Psychiatric care alongside addiction treatment
Addiction rarely travels alone. Depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and psychosis are common underneath it, and treating only the substance leaves the engine running. Our psychiatrists assess and treat co-occurring conditions together with the addiction, which is called dual diagnosis treatment. This includes dedicated care for conditions such as schizophrenia, which we treat on our schizophrenia treatment programme.
Therapy that does the long work
Detox clears the body; therapy changes the pattern. Our programme uses individual counselling, group therapy, relapse-prevention work, and family therapy, with evidence-based approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing, coordinated by Dr. Asad Ali Noor, our CEO and consultant psychologist, and the clinical team. Therapy is in Urdu and English, and spiritually aware counselling is available where the patient wants it.
A family programme built for distance
Your nominated family contact receives scheduled progress updates from our team, with the patient’s permission. Family sessions are arranged during treatment: family in Pakistan can visit and join in person, and you can join by phone where possible. (Pakistan is 4 to 5 hours ahead of the UK.) You learn what addiction is, what enabling looks like, and what your role is when he comes home.
Discharge and aftercare, planned before he leaves
Discharge includes a written relapse-prevention plan: his triggers, his warning signs, what the family does at each sign. It is built during treatment, not on the last day, so he has rehearsed his responses before he needs them. If he returns to the UK, we will help you identify local support near you. If he stays in Pakistan, the family here receives the same guidance in person.
- Substances
The Substances We Treat Most, From UK-Linked Cases
The addictions our UK-linked admissions most often involve, each treated here with physician-supervised detox.
Alcohol
Still the most common, and the withdrawal most likely to become medically dangerous without supervision.
Pregabalin (Lyrica) and tramadol
The quiet epidemic in British Pakistani communities, usually started for pain or sleep, bought without prescription, and very hard to stop alone.
Benzodiazepines
Diazepam and similar sedatives, often mixed with other substances.
Cannabis
Frequently underestimated, heavily linked with psychosis in vulnerable young men.
Cocaine and ICE
Stimulants driving paranoia, aggression, and rapid family breakdown. See our ICE rehabilitation services.
Heroin and other opioids
Less common than a generation ago, still devastating where present.
Full detail by substance is on our drug addiction treatment programme page.

How You Arrange Everything From the UK
Six steps, all by phone: the whole route, visible at a glance.
First call
Phone or WhatsApp +92-314-9922547, any hour. The first conversation is a confidential family consultation, not a sales call.
Phone assessment
Our admissions and clinical team reviews the case with you by phone, and with your loved one where he is willing. You speak with a member of the treating team and hear an honest view of what he needs.
Plan and cost, confirmed with you
You receive the programme outline and expected duration, and the clinic confirms the fee with you on the call, based on his condition and the agreed plan, before anything begins.
Admission in Bani Gala
He is admitted at the centre, arriving with family in Pakistan where possible, or as coordinated with our admissions team. Medical examination and detox begin on admission, and before the day ends, your family receives its first update call.
Treatment with you inside it
Scheduled progress updates to your nominated contact, with the patient’s permission, family sessions during treatment (in person for family in Pakistan, by phone for you where possible), and direct access to your admissions contact.
Discharge planned with you
Before he leaves, the discharge plan is agreed with the family: the relapse-prevention plan, the family’s role, and the aftercare steps.
- If he refuses to come
How Families Start the Conversation
“He agreed on the phone, then refused when the day came” is the single most common story UK families tell us. Refusal is rarely a final answer. Addiction removes a person’s insight into his own condition, and shame does the rest. What works better than pleading or threats is one planned conversation:
Pick the moment and the people
When he is sober and calm. One or two trusted family members, not a roomful of relatives.
Speak about events, not labels
The money that vanished, the job that was lost, the night the police came. Specific facts are harder to argue with than the word “addict.”
Be clear about what changes
The family stops sending cash and covering up, and starts paying only for treatment. Enabling ends; support does not.
Offer one small step
A single phone call with our doctors, with you on the call. Many men who refuse “rehab” will accept one conversation.
Leave the door open
If the first conversation fails, keep contact warm and repeat calmly. Agreement often comes at the third or fourth attempt.
What we can do, and cannot, honestly
We can prepare you and your relatives in Pakistan for this conversation, and, when he is willing, speak with him directly. Judge any rehab you are considering, including us, on the same tests set out in the first FAQ below.
We cannot collect or hold anyone by force. Admission follows the patient’s own agreement after assessment. If he is in immediate danger, contact emergency services first.
- Why Healing Door
Why UK Families Choose Healing Door
You speak to a named doctor before any money moves
The pre-admission phone consultation is with our clinical team. These are the doctors whose names are on the treatment, the same names you can check on our expert team page before you ever call.

Physician & Addiction Treatment Specialist

Dr. Nasir Mehmood Abbasi
Medical & Addiction Specialist

Dr. M. Iqbal Khan
Psychiatrist

Dr. Asad Ali Noor
CEO, Consultant Psychologist & Addiction Therapist
Detox is medical, including the difficult tapers
Withdrawal is supervised by physicians with medication, and pregabalin, tramadol, and benzodiazepine dependence is tapered slowly and safely.
Addiction and mental illness treated together
Our psychiatrists treat depression, bipolar disorder, and psychosis alongside the addiction, in one centre, because treating one without the other is the most common reason treatment fails.
A family programme built for distance
Scheduled progress updates to your nominated contact, with the patient’s permission, and family sessions arranged during treatment: in person for family in Pakistan, by phone for you.
Treatment in his own language and culture
Therapy in Urdu and English, with doctors who understand family honour, faith, and the double life between two cultures.
- Cost, honestly
What Treatment Costs, Honestly
We do not publish a price for Healing Door, because the honest cost depends on the patient’s condition, the substance, the medical needs, and the length of stay, and one printed figure would mislead families whose cases differ. Most programmes run 30 to 90 days.
Call us: the clinic will confirm the fee for your loved one’s case on the call, based on his condition and the plan agreed at assessment, before anything begins.
A complete residential programme includes
- Medical detox, physician-supervised
- Psychiatric care alongside addiction treatment
- Individual, group and family therapy
- Accommodation and food
- A written relapse-prevention plan at discharge

- Questions from UK families
FAQs: Rehab in Pakistan for UK Families
How do I choose the best rehabilitation centre in Pakistan from the UK?
Check for named doctors, physician-supervised detox, psychiatric care alongside addiction treatment, structured family involvement, a clear explanation of how the cost is confirmed before you commit, and independent reviews. Then speak to the clinical team before you decide, and be wary of any centre quoting a single “success rate”: no rehab can prove one clean number.
How much does rehab in Pakistan cost?
We do not publish a figure, because the fee depends on the patient’s condition, his medical needs and the length of stay. Call us and the clinic will confirm the cost for your loved one’s case on the call, based on his condition and the plan agreed at assessment.
My loved one is in Pakistan and I am in the UK. Can I arrange everything from here?
Yes. Most of our UK admissions begin exactly this way. The consultation, assessment, treatment plan, and the fee are handled by phone, with the cost confirmed by the clinic on the call. He is admitted at our Bani Gala centre, and before the day ends, your family receives its first update call. Family sessions are arranged during treatment, in person for relatives in Pakistan and by phone where possible.
What if he refuses to go?
Treatment works best when the patient takes part willingly, and admission follows the patient’s own agreement after assessment. If he refuses, start with the family consultation anyway: we can explain how families approach this conversation. If he is in immediate danger, contact emergency services where he is.
Is treatment in Pakistan safe and genuine? How do I know this is real?
Verify the same things you would verify anywhere: named doctors (ours are listed on our expert team page), independent reviews, a physical address you can send a relative in Pakistan to visit, and a clinical conversation before any payment. We welcome every check.
Do you treat ICE addiction?
Yes. ICE (methamphetamine) is one of the most common reasons families call us. Treatment covers supervised withdrawal from the crash and sleep disruption, psychiatric care for stimulant psychosis and paranoia, and therapy on triggers and relapse. See our ICE rehabilitation services page.
Do you treat mental illness as well as addiction, such as schizophrenia?
Yes. We are a rehab and psychiatric centre. Conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and severe depression are treated by our psychiatrists alongside addiction, because treating one without the other is the most common reason treatment fails. See our schizophrenia treatment page.
How long is the flight, if he is coming from the UK?
Direct flights from London to Islamabad take about 8 hours, with Manchester routes also available. Pakistan is 4 to 5 hours ahead of the UK, which makes family contact easy to arrange in your evening.
How will we stay involved during treatment?
Through your nominated family contact: scheduled progress updates, with the patient’s permission, family sessions during treatment, and a discharge plan agreed with the family before he leaves.
What happens when he comes back to the UK?
He leaves with a written relapse-prevention plan, and aftercare is part of the planning before he leaves. We will also help you line up support near home: his GP, local drug and alcohol services, and recovery meetings in your area.
Is everything confidential?
Yes. Admission is confidential and nothing is shared with employers, community members, or anyone outside the people the patient authorises. Family updates go only to the nominated contact. The only exceptions are those required by law and immediate clinical safety, explained before admission.
Start With One Confidential Call
You do not need the whole plan today. One call tells you whether Healing Door is right for your loved one, what it would cost, confirmed by the clinic on that call, and how the arrangement works from the UK.
